Prescription drugs are carefully researched to ensure they are effective at their intended purpose. They are also tested to ensure that they are safe. However, that being said, it does not always mean that these drugs are any safer than those found from street dealers. In fact, in 1898 heroin was introduced as a cure to morphine addiction but it was quickly discovered that it was even more addictive. Cocaine was also used in many over the counter medicines. Heroin and cocaine are now known as two of the most addictive and lethal drugs abused in modern times. This was prior to the mandated regulation of what was put into medication by the FDA in 1938. Since then the government has cracked down on narcotics and has began treating using other methods. Yet, until 1973 there was nobody to stop criminals from spreading drugs aside from local cops, and if necessary the FBI. Once 1973 came around the Drug enforcement administration was formed to slow the drug trade. Unfortunately for them, places like Florida and Mexico have systems in place so that nearly anybody can get their hands on prescription drugs. In fact, it is often times as simple as walking in complaining about some pain and walking away with enough oxycodone for distribution. Also since they are obtained with a valid prescription from a corrupt doctor the DEA cannot prosecute the offender. This is how the trade protects those involved. Despite how the preceding
