Some of the symptoms that are warning signs are that children are not reaching milestones as quickly as they should. First, there would be no smiles or joyful expressions by six months. By nine months, there is no imitation or repeating of sounds, or facial expressions. At 12 months, there is no babbling or back-and-forth gestures such as waving, pointing, or reaching. By the age of 24 months, there is no meaningful, two word phrases including “conversations.” Some have the tendency to try and avoid contact. A child might do this by becoming limp when you pick them up or falling back when they are being held. Babies may become extremely flustered, and may rock or bang their heads on things.
