Introduction
Recently this fall, I had the opportunity to step out and conduct informational interview with with someone at a workplace where I would like to work in future and know more about the industry. In the process of finding the right personnel I came across various firms and workplaces related to my area of interest. First it seemed very uncomfortable to ask around for an informational interview but eventually it changed into interest of learning and researching more about workplaces and how the industry functions. While my research was ongoing, I was referred to Mr. Harmeet Singh by my brother Preet. Mr. Singh works at Maglin Public Site Furniture and he’s a very humble and gentle individual who was very kind to help me for this mandatory

I explained him about my program, university and about the assignment he is helping me for. I had series of questions ready to be asked and I proceeded to collect information based on the questions. Mr. Singh was very pleased to see my effort and dedication for this project, “You are doing well, keep it up!” he said after the interview.

Informational Interview summary The major goal of this interview was to find my interests out in the industry and spread the networking. It helped me educate myself about what areas are out there. What are the possible chances of getting the placement of your interest. The questions asked to Mr. Singh were general enough so that personal information was not breached but enough to gather all the required information. After my introduction I presented him my first question. I asked Mr. Harmeet Singh to tell me about himself regarding his background, his experiences in undergraduate studies, and journey to find a job after graduation. He explained that he was born in India and he finished his secondary education from India as well. Finding no scope of his future in India, he decided to continue his undergraduate study here in

It helped me gain practical insight into the steps required to be successful in my field of interest. It helped me develop enough confidence to go out in the field and talk to people who already have experience in the industry. It also helped me to develop professional contact in my field of interest. This interview provided me knowledge of duties and responsibilities of the CAD designer. I would be very pleased to work in the environment like Maglin. After the interview has been conducted I feel very confident in finding the right placement for me considering my interest in designing, but in order to obtain this type of job I really need to stress on my designing skills and team work abilities. This research portion of this interview has helped me to explore the industry inside out through the internet. Now I know a lot more companies and firms to apply to than I did before the research. If this assignment wasn’t mandatory I would have never learned about the industry, where to apply, what are the expectations and such. After conducting this interview, now I have idea about where I need to apply and where I have the maximum chances of getting a job offer considering my skills in the particular

While interviewing Dylan McKinnon, a second year law student at the University of Iowa, I gained knowledge about the subject field and domain of law school and how it prepares students to emerge into the law field after graduation. I found Dylan during his office hours in the Pappajohn Business Building on the third floor on Friday afternoon. His office was poorly decorated with the only item on his desk being a laptop. The room seemed much too big for the minimal space that he was using but the artlessness mimicked his simple, but insightful answers to the interview questions. The room was grey and most likely could not be changed, a rule of the business college.…

One thing that stood out to me about this interview was that you needed to have good “counseling skills” to help clients make decisions about new hair styles. The next interview is on plumbing, I think Roes tries to open the eyes of his readers on this one because most people think “oh its just plumbing all you do is fix sinks and toilets” but really it takes more than that. Roes points out that plumbing requires a attitude of craftsmanship, problem solving, knowledge of materials needed to get the job done, and having a ability to “see the whole picture”.…

For the informational interview I contacted a family friend Rebecca Gray Detling who is an executive sales manager with ICH Global LLC. I first just started off asking Rebecca on what she majored in college, how it prepared her for her job, what courses were the most valuable, and what class she wished she would have taken while in school. While in college Rebecca majored in physical therapy and had a minor in finance because she knew she wanted a future in the business field while helping out people in the medical field. Once out of college though she said that the most valuable class she took was a little of every class because with a career in the medical field, sales, and finance not one class is better than the other but a little of each class was extremely valuable.…

Semi-structured interview The interview allows implicit and unobservable beliefs of teachers to be made explicit. Interview seems to be an appropriate tool for eliciting verbal commentaries, which many teacher cognition researchers have employed in a semi-structured format because open-ended questions allow interviewees to respond to questions by expressing in their own words (Borg, 2006). According to Borg (2006), semi-structured interview is common to employ when a researcher aims to capture the main element of natural conversation, especially in an in-depth interview. This method is productive or meaningful when a researcher uses themes or topics to guide interviewees.…

Final Field Project For this assignment, I chose to interview my boyfriend Michael Hook. Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…

Upon arrival to Dr. Ahmed Kamel’s office, I look around the familiar little room, recognizing some of the textbooks as ones that I have used in past semesters. There are also binders for each of his classes on the shelves that line the wall and jars of proppant samples on the desk. I pull out my notebook and pencil and turn on my recorder as he jokingly tells me that he is setting his timer and will charge me for his time at the end of the interview. Dr. Kamel attended Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt where he earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Petroleum Engineering. He then began his career in the petroleum industry in Egypt, where he worked as a drilling engineer.…
