How do you interact with other users of the road (e.g., pedestrians, cyclists, drivers – for example, whether and how you stop for them)?

Interviewee #1: I get around campus by foot. I live near campus, so I typically take the bus every so often to and from campus, but if not I just walk. I usually get to campus 10-20 minutes before any of my classes, and so I go to my first class when I get to campus. As a pedestrian, I usually cross the street whenever I feel it is safe enough. If a car is coming I let it pass, unless they signal me to cross first. If

At the first glance at this issue – Whether the bicyclists should obey the driving laws as the drivers do in San Francisco –, it pops into my mind that the bicyclists are not necessary to follow the rules which for the drivers. On the other hand, the bicyclist should have their own rules to avoid the traffic jams. The core reason why I have such perspective is that the authority cannot judge the drivers and bicyclists at the equivalent situation because they have different purposes and functions. First of all, unlike the vehicles or buses, the size of bicycles is smaller. As a result, the bicycles do not occupy as much space on the roadway as the cars do.…

Additionally, cars that pass other vehicles will be considered speeding and cars whose brake lights come on when approaching the police officer vehicle will be regarded as speeding as well. Most people understand that police officers and other emergency responders do dangerous jobs at times. This work becomes even more dangerous when police officers or other emergency responders have to stop on the side of busy roads. Since 1999, over 200 law enforcement officers have been struck and killed by vehicles. Along with that, paramedics, tow truck drivers, and others who need to get out of their vehicles to help people along busy roadways have been hurt or killed when they were hit by a vehicle while working along a busy roadway. Because of that, Move Over Laws have been implemented in all 50 states with Hawaii being the most recent state to adopt a Move Over Law in July 2012.…

Trains are very nice way of transportation and can also be a safe way of transportation, that's if we follow the rules. Waiting for a train to pass by may take just a minute or two. If we are so impatient just to cross the railroad while a train is coming that is just pure ignorance. 1) What are some of the things ( behaviours) that you did or didn't do this week that kept you in your integrity? On my first week of school, I was speaking to a classmate and discovered she lived in the relative area to me, yet her commute was far longer. After some consideration, I decided to offer her a carpool agreement to the subway in the mornings, and to her house in the evenings. Rather than Lhara take a total of four busses every morning, I have added 15 minutes to my commute but taken an hour off hers.…

Through walking the plus 15 system it was clear that it was a very inclusive and discriminating environment. This contradicts the City of Calgary’s definition of the walkway where they say that its “a public pedestrian walkway system that … provides alternative routes for pedestrians to numerous and varied destinations”. Through walking at both the street level and the plus 15 level strong contrasts began to arise between the two supposedly “public spaces”. Differences in areas such as interaction, status of individuals, security, and design of the space became prominent.…

    Walking In The Late 1800s

Driving being so popular and natural has caused there to be rules for pedestrians. The article says, “For the crime of walking three tired, hungry children home in the most efficient way possible, Nelson faced more jail time than the man who killed her son” (aeon). Nelson was charged with this crime just because she did not walk across the designated walkway on the road. Given Nelson’s situation, she most likely chose the safer way, rather then walking further down the street to cross the walkway at that time of the night. The crisis here is that with the way the world has evolved, it has forced walking, one of the most natural things to do in life, to be almost “abnormal”.…

Despite their helpfulness, helmet laws are controversial. Some bikers like Stan Daniels believe they’re being discriminated against. In his essay called “Helmet Laws Discriminate against Bikers”, he tries to prove that helmet laws are unnecessary, annoying, and should be repealed because we should be able to live freely. In this essay I’ll argue that his argument is unconvincing.…
