So the question is what this individuality of man is. What do we mean by the individuality of man? In reply to this question it can be said that individuality is the peculiarity in the personality of man. Each and every man is unique in his personality. The distinctive qualities and characteristics which distinguish a man from other man constitute the individuality of man. Although this and that man come under the class we call “man” but each and every man’s mental and physical qualities, appearance and characteristics differ from the other fellow man. These mental and physical qualities, appearance and characteristics are determined by different factors like heredity, socio-political position and environmental factors etc. which provide a tremendous influence in constituting the individuality of man. The individuality of man is not the same with the personality of man, for the individuality of a man is something more real or it can be said closer to man than his personality. There is no element of pretention in the individuality of a man. But in the personality of man there is this element of pretention. Individuality of a man is an element more true to man in his life than his personality. Personality of a man can be vanished when man is unmasked but the individuality of a man can never vanish since it is a real element in man. A man can act as different persons but not as different individuals for the individuality of a man cannot be changed completely. Individuality of a man grows day by day and thus, it develops gradually. Thus, individuality of a man is an inner being of a man and personality of a man is like a mask of a man that can be unmasked at any time.
