Individual Rapprochement

Reality, body, inspiration, authenticity, happenstance: Terms that are intertwined, in motion, and in dialogue with one another to determine the understanding of each other. The most vital element melded into this coexistence however, is the manner of the individual rapprochement with said terms. Franziska Bahring sums it up best as, 'Not reflection on the observation and evaluation of others, but instead personal sensation and enjoyment, and fashion as a medium to achieve this.'
As an artist, individuality is a concept near and dear to my being. Prior to the two years spent at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), the ability to harness my individuality and present it in a methodical approach was only truly present in one medium: Ballet.

To be immersed in a culture I've only gotten glimpses of would be sensational. But my desire to attend CSM travels far deeper than just the location of the school. The unrivaled connections CSM maintains; the sandwich program, allowing full development; the PPD Program, in preparation for anything and everything; the professors, still active in the field and therefore knowledgeable on society's demands, and the extensive, notable list of alumni. Anna-Nicole Ziesche, one of CSM's tutors who comes to mind is a perfect example of whom I would cherish to be educated by as she is both a knowledgeable tutor and an influential artist. CSM is not only a magnet for attracting incredible professors but also eager students who then develop into accomplished alumni. I aspire to join that list alongside designers like Giles Deacon, a former student turned noteworthy alumni, couture designer, and artist who I'm inspired …show more content…
The commingling of these two 'subjects or art forms' is something I wish to further explore in my studies. With the notion of conceptual art not centered around art that has a concept but rather the questioning of the very nature of art, fashion can be show cased in a different light. Through this mindset, inspiration can be found in the smallest, most ordinary objects and occurrences. The freedom of finding inspiration in anything in the world around me allows a creation of individuality which as I mentioned earlier, I find to be the most important concept of design. Artists like Viktor and Rolf, Iris van Herpen, and Rune Guneriussen are whom I admire and respect as they create sometimes playful, always elegant, and without fail avant-garde, distinct works of art.
My future, as I have envisioned it, is comprised of a degree hard earned from CSM, a design career in the industry under a brand with the same vision and passion for the combination of haute couture and conceptual art, and eventually my own brand in which I will design under the ultimate feeling of creative freedom. The first key step in my future, as you've probably deciphered, is to have the pleasure of calling CSM my home for the coming three years of my

It is well known that Western culture and the Western world has endeavored to assert itself over other cultures for many centuries. Beginning with the colonization of groups of people deemed lesser by the standards of white Europeans, who often forced their customs or religion on people they had colonized, Western civilizations continue to push their cultural standards on other parts of the world, especially when it pertains to art. In the essay, “The Trouble with the Term Art”, Carolyn Dean raises questions about the overwhelming western standard of art, and how different cultures have different views of aesthetic beauty. The central argument of Dean’s essay is that the normal definition of art has been skewed to only include the values of Western society.…

I remember my sister crying the night before her flight, nervous of her transition to Cornell. However, during her first winter break back, my sister came back with a happy face. She spent the following weeks talking about her hallmates, lunch with her professors, and her highly intellectual peers. My brother soon followed suit. They both talked about the intimate relationships they were able to foster through opportunities to interact with the faculty, such as college-wide barbeques and eating dinner at professors’ homes.…

On Thursday, October 12th, I took the opportunity to help at the Agua Caliente Casino’s College Fair event, with the intention that I would also see the schools I intend to apply. While at the event, I saw many colleges and universities with their luring stands’ free candies, pens, and informational brochures. Overall, the schools all had something great to offer; whether it was the small class sizes or amazing student abroad programs. Although universities from as far as Hawaii to Oregon may have grabbed my attention – because of its stunning scenery and programs – I restricted my preferences to California schools. In particular, my eyes lit up when I saw UC Irvine, UC Riverside, CSU Channel Islands, – given that I’ve seen some of these see…

An artist must encompass every characteristic, if not, then the artist is no more an artist than myself. Throughout my life, I have had an innumerable amount of ideas; however, I do not have the skill, ability, devotion, and passion necessary to express those ideas through art, therefore I am not nor will I ever be an artist. For these reasons, I believe it is essential that an artist craft their work without the use of…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers and tons of grease.…

And according to Prown, object analysis follows three stages. The analysis starts with a comprehensive description, recording the outer qualities of the object. The second stage is the deduction, interacting a more open reflection between the object and the perceiver. Finally, the analysis causes deep questions which broaden a new horizon.…

Expressive theory of art, while being able to include certain artwork and exclude non-artwork that was problematic for formalism, has difficulties of its own. That is, there seems to be something wrong with arguing that simply because an artist has not felt the emotions expressed in their work their creation is not art. This notion could discount many great creations. For example, suppose there was the most beautiful painting; formally it is perfect, the colours, shape and brush stroke is technically brilliant. Art critics all over the world write about how amazing it is that this artist has captured sadness so exquisitely.…
