Indigenous veterans were and are very important to the war effort and have contributed a lot in each war. They partook in wars ranging from “Pequot war in 1637 to the Korean war in 1950”(Wars of the indigenous peoples of North America. 2018). Their most helpful contributions were in the war of 1812 and World War one and two which helped shape the world we live in today, this was very helpful because it added much needed bodies to the war effort. Without the contributions and help of indigenous soldiers and other military divisions the wars would have been harder and canada would have lost some crucial battles.
In the war of 1812 indigenous veterans in Canada had an important role of defense alongside the British Empire against the United States. Indigenous veterans fought to stop the invasion and expansion of the United States because of their common interest to protect their homeland. Roughly around ten thousand indigenous people fought in nearly every major battle using “melee weapons, guns and other sources of defense, such as, traps, general tactics, and fear”(Northern Affairs Canada. 2016 feb 16). They may have been exceptional fighters and medics, however, that did not end the hatred they faced. Even still massive numbers of aboriginals came from all over British North America (BNA) to fight alongside the British. They helped fight most of the major battles and burned the white house down with the british.
