Is it okay that the “lowest ranking soldiers in the U.S. military earn $8.86 an hour, while some fast food workers have been demanding $15 an hour to flip burgers” (Straub, 2014)? The average American makes $55,000.00, even though the most “a soldier can make in general is $35,000.00” (Army, 2014). The people who protect the country are making less than the people they are protecting. Is that right? Men and women risking their lives to protect those who pay them barely anything. If anything active duty soldiers deserve to make hundreds of thousands. Soldiers have families also, “53.7% of active duty soldiers have families” (Stintson, 2008). The word "wealth" is often confused with "income". These two terms describe different but related things. …show more content…
According to the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth, "the world distribution of wealth is much more unequal than that of income”. But the overall ownership of these financial assets has become stunningly concentrated. America’s richest 10 percent now hold nearly 85 percent of All the Federal Reserve data reflect the responses surveyed. “The best official U.S. source of data on household wealth distribution comes from the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Consumer Finances, an in-depth survey of the finances of some 6,000 American families conducted every three years over the past three decades” (Wealth Inequality, 2014). According to the Huffington Post the United States of America is the leader in inequality in the World. Veterans, for example are not receiving the benefits they should. Furthermore, even younger veterans are being wrongfully paid according to the Washington Post, “The plan to trim pension increases for working-age military retirees such as [the average man] is by far the most controversial provision in a bipartisan budget deal approved by Congress and signed last week by President Obama” (Montgomery, …show more content…
Without the soldiers in the United States no one in the country would be alive today. Without the soldiers those professional athletes would not be able to make those millions, so why are soldiers making such a minuscule fraction of for example LeBron James makes. “LeBron James made $21.75 million dollars in 2015” (Forbes, 2015). Once again, the most a soldier can make is around $35,000.00 a year. “As an officer they may be able to make up to $69,000.00” (Army Wages, 2014). Your Army Basic Pay as a soldier depends on how long you’ve been in the Army and your Army rank. Your Army base pay will increase as you climb in rank and years of experience. In the United States money is a representation of the amount of power that a specific individual possesses. In today’s society people are striving to live an average life opposed to living the “American Dream”. Recent studies have shown that there are more people living in America who believe that the idea of going from rags to riches is simply unachievable. The new representation of the “American Dream” is obtaining economic stability for the future. As a result of the rise of income and social inequality over the past few decades, many economists and scholars believe that the gap separating the wealthiest Americans from everyone else will continue to widen unless the United States government puts forth effort to reverse it.…

A lot of people would disagree with me when I say soldiers shouldn’t make more money than athletes, but i assure you I can turn them into believers. It would take too much money for the government to pay soldiers as much money as athletes are paid. Also anybody can sign up to be a soldier. It takes a lot of skill and dedication to be an athlete. Lastly if the government started giving people a lot of money everybody will want to join.…

Decreased Military Pay Each year average soldiers are paid anywhere from $19,818 to $62,031.They not only risk their lives, but also they spend time away from their families that they will never get back, eat pre-packaged food worse than the school cafeteria, wake up at the crack of dawn to train, and receive hardly any time for themselves . Not to mention the benefits after they serve for our country. After all of the common citizen privileges that they give up, they are still not credited enough. In saying that, should their pay really be decreased more than what it already is?…

America is experiencing a large gap in income inequality between the working class and the wealthy class. According to Derek Thompson, the new wealthy class, which is the top 1% of America population, holds nearly 40% of America’s wealth; while the new working and social class holds significantly less than 7%. There are opinions thinking that this gap is caused by the rich, who only think about their profits and don’t even care that America is having job a shortage or people are working low wage for several years. On the other hand, some blame the working and social class for their “immobility”, saying that they are not trying hard enough to climb out of the bottom while depending too much on the government subsidizes. Both opinions are true…

Let’s Not Let Poverty Be Our End Game Income inequality is currently at its peak. If I drew a picture between the last economic crash and today, it would look much akin to a suspension bridge, an idea Robert Reich cleverly displayed in his film Inequality for All. Visualizing is an important tool when discussing complex topics, as it’s sometimes difficult to see each piece of the puzzle without relating them to everyday experiences. So let me paint a picture, one that’s currently a hot topic in America; the growing inequality between the classes.…

According to a study conducted last year by the Oxfam Committee, the richest eighty-five individuals in the world are as wealthy as the poorest three and a half billion individuals of the world. Although I want to illustrate income inequality particularly in the United States, this statistic is quite alarming considering the global economic impact our country has on the world. The implied benefits of reducing income inequality in the United States is critical to the overall economic growth of our country. If the United States could reduce its inequality to the level of Canada, U.S. GDP would rise about 0.9 percentage points per year, a significant figure in economic growth for a single fiscal year. It is imperative that we begin to discuss…

Are Athletes Paid too Much? Have you ever thought about how much professional athletes are getting paid? If you have do you think that they are getting paid too much or a good amount? I believe that they are getting paid too much and here’s why. Athletes are getting paid too much because many people who save lives don’t get paid as much as professional athletes, tickets to games cost lots of money due to the amount of money athletes are getting paid, and the money used to pay the athletes could be used for the community.…
