Culminating Activity
The culminating activity was to read, generate questions, and annotate the three documents about John. F. Kennedy. The first document was the speech, Inaugural Address, January 20,1961 which was given by John. F. Kennedy himself, the second essay was Inside Kennedy’s Inauguration, 50 years on written by Eleanor Clift, and the third document, which was actually a picture, was the Inauguration of John. F. Kennedy.
The first document was a speech given by John. F. Kennedy about his inauguration. Throughout his entire speech, he uses the term “we” a lot to put himself on their level and make him seem like one of them. He starts out by trying to be impartial by addressing different presidents and vice presidents …show more content…
The people who don’t really have homes and who are miserable. He says that we will help them, not because the communists are doing it, but because “it is right and if a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.”
Kennedy expresses his opinion about civility and how its not a sign of weakness and he asks questions to make his audience think more. The last thing I ill say about Kennedy’s speech is that I think the quote “ask not what your country can do for you-ask what you can do for your country” is iconic. I think that it got everyone to think about how they could better themselves for their country.
While reading the second essay, you can easily tell that the two essays have two different styles. The author of Inside Kennedy’s Inaguration, 50 years on explained in detail the day of the inauguration. She speaks of the memories of the ones that surround him, “it was 50 years ago, frozen in our memories, at least those of us old enough to remember it.” Eleanor wrote to anyone who wants to learn about the significance of the day and everything going on behind the scenes of the event. If someone talks about Kennedy, most of the time it is about his accomplishments as a president. Throughout Eleanor’s essay, she provides the reader …show more content…
This picture is of John. F. Kennedy being sworn into Presidency. The black and white color I think gives the picture a more serious feeling to it. This picture was taken from a higher angle making the suject smaller than reality. The closness of the picture conveys more power and I think that the background of the photo adds to the photos overall message by showing everyone who is there to support him.
Overall, the docments/picure relate to each other by all being about the inauguration but differ in many ways. The first document was a speech given by Kennedy himself about how he would make a great president and everything that he would do for the country. The second essay was written about everything that was going on during the inauguration and the third document was a picture of the
