Inappropriate behaviors, which are present in all classrooms, are essentially a form of communication. Educators looking for ways to handle these behaviors can use functional behavior assessments to assist them in identifying, describing, and predicting the purpose of student behavior. Determining the cause of the behavior helps educators understand how to respond, what treatments to use, and which replacement behaviors are appropriate. When the function of the behavior is understood, educators can construct the appropriate behavior intervention strategies to reduce challenging behaviors which will result in a more positive learning environment and improved learning for all students in the
