“In God We Trust” is the most common religious phrase used in today’s world. It can be found throughout the United States. The reason that this phrase is so prevalent in our country is because it is the U.S. national motto. It officially became the motto in the year 1956, when President Eisenhower signed it into the law. It was signed into the law in 1956 stating that the phrase must be printed on all paper money. The law P.L. 84-140 exactly states, “ An Act to provide that all United States currency shall bear the inscription “ In God We Trust.” Therefore if the phrase is not put on American currency, the people who print the money would be breaking the federal law. Breaking the law is obviously not a choice that people can take. There have been many times when this phrase was taken to court. Every time that it has been taken to court it has been proved to be constitutional. One specific court case it was taken to was the Aronow vs. United States. This case took place in 1970.
