Improving My Leadership Style

Over the course of Non-commissioned Officer Academy, I reflected on the type I have been throughout my Air Force career and the leadership style that I now adopted. I have changed different types of leadership styles depending on the situations. I have learn my approach to my subordinates, peers, and supervisor that I preferred to lead using Management by Exception-Passive (MBE-P). I realized in my current situation that I leave my subordinates to complete their tasks on their own since I usually justified to myself that they are capable and self-sufficient Staff Sergeants. I realize this is an ineffective approach since my subordinates will only perform at the standard I set during our feedback. I know I have Idealized Influence because my supervisor recognized that I display high level of moral behavior and my strong work ethnics. Additionally, my subordinates recognized that I applied Intellectual Stimulation because I valued their opinions and point of views. I realize that I lack the Individual Considerations and the Inspirational Motivation to be an effective leader. This will further improve my Inspirational Motivation by recognizing during the “situation” of the concept to include the status of my people and the status of the environment. To better articulate my intent as a leader, I need to better observe the morale, esprit de corps, discipline and proficiency of my subordinates and peers as they are displaying. In addition, I need to recognize my action as a leader will impact the organizational environment. Therefore, I need to establish clear direction and priorities when I am making decision and providing information. This will enhance my negotiate with my subordinates, peers, and supervisors on my leadership
