tests to make better grades. Memory essentially has 3 stages. Sensory memory, short-term
memory and long-term memory. The first step is sensory memory. In this stage you receive
information from all your senses. is is stored there in sensory form. If we retain this information
then we enter the short-term memory phase. In this phase there is a capacity of the amount of

Once you know the answer to one question, move on to the next.
There is another way to improve your memory skills. In this method called elaborative
rehearsal you can't just repeat it to yourself over and over, you must know the meaning of the
what you are trying to remember. You have to think about the term, understand it, and then repeat
it.
Another useful way to improve your memory skills is something called mnemonics. With
mnemonics you use word association. If you want to remember something you associate it with
information that is already in your memory bank. For example when I decided to study
Cosmetology, I had to learn the color wheel. In the Color wheel there are certain Colors that

to remember the wheel, I linked it with things that I had already learned or experienced. Gold is
opposite on the color wheel of Purple. Purple and Gold were my school colors. Red is opposite
the color green on the color wheel. Red and Green are Christmas colors. Orange is opposite the
color wheel to blue. Orange and Blue are Auburn colors. I can remember the color wheel
