Critical Thinking interpreted different ways
In the article, (Shoulders, Follett, & Eason, 2014), spoke of how Peter Facione construed with a group of experts from various specialties his own definition of critical thinking, “Delphi Report” (Facione, 1990). It stated the characterized model critical thinker as “habitually inquisitive, well-informed, trustful of reason, diligent in seeking relevant information, and persistent in seeking results” (Facione, 1990). Although this was a fitting description for critical thinking, it did not necessarily apply to nursing. Scheffer and Rubenfeld applied the Delphi Report to critical thinking of nursing. However, evidence-based practice is not used as much as one might think. Difficulties in trying to decipher findings in the evidence-based information include applying it to practice, lack of time, lack of knowledge of research, and lack of autonomy to implement changes (Vanhook, 2009). This can be overcome through universities implementing more nursing research while nursing students are in clinical and non-clinical courses (Grant, 2012).
