1.0 The Warehouse Layout and Design
According to Thomas L.Freese, nowadays the strategic of warehousing is changing rapidly. It is because, the number of shipments is creasing while the number of inventory is decreasing. Therefore, now the warehouse layout and design is different if compare to the past, such as now we need bigger assembly areas for the shipment, picking ares and pick slot but smaller the storage areas. (Freese, 2000, p. 1)
1.1 The Important of Warehouse Layout and Design

Thus, High Pick & Low Storage is suitable for the warehouse which has a lot of shipment activities but not in large amount of inventories and the inventories or goods usual keep in the warehouse for a short period.

Strategosinc’s website provides that the Low Pick & High Storage is using manual or semi-manual handing or packing and high density storage. (Strategosinc) To apply this storage concept, the warehouse required to have high density storage to keep the inventories or goods but do not need high technology automated handing. Thus, Low Pick & High Storage is suitable for the warehouse which has large amount of inventories, the inventories have to keep in the warehouse for a long time, but low turnover or low picking activities.

This principle is to uses the less time that a company has to move an inventory to reduce the labor needed and also faster the time needed in inbound activities and outbound activities. However, this principle is against the first and second principle which is shortest path and the shortest travel distance, and smallest space. It is because, if a company wants to reduce handling and reduce labor, the company needs longer travel and larger storage spaces to avoid the factors which will interrupt the handling time such as cross-traffic. Therefore, the company has to balance between these multiple principles.
Fourthly, the principle is stock groupings. Stock groupings are to take a number of inventories that are similar and put them into a single room or area. This principle can shorter the travel distance because it is easy for the labors to keep inventories and take out inventories for inbound activities and outbound
