A. “Tết Nguyên Đán”, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is the most important festive event of the Vietnamese calendar.
1. It closely associated with the country’s history, culture and identity.
2. It touches on many aspects of Vietnamese life and provides important insights into the nature of contemporary Vietnamese society and culture.
3. In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year means family returning home to be together, an auspicious time to get married and the yellow spring blossoms of the bong mai tree.
B. It has been described as a ‘mega-event’, something like a Western Christmas, New Year, Easter and Thanksgiving rolled into one.

Some Vietnamese people do not acknowledge individual birthdays and consider everyone to be a year older on the first morning of Tet.

C. There are many festive parades that include dragon dances - acrobatic dances performed by dragon-costumed dancers on the third day of the New Year.

IV. There are many other superstitions associated with the holiday.
A. It is believed that whatever happens during Tet affects the person 's luck for the entire year ahead.
B. The first visitor to a home during the New Year can bring good or bad luck to a family.
C. Homes should not be cleaned during Tet because the good luck could be swept out.
D. Bad luck can also be avoided by not working, fighting, arguing, talking negatively about people, lending anything, breaking anything, or digging in the ground. Works Cited
