At the beginning of this semester I knew I was not the greatest writer, however, I never thought I was a horrible writer. In this semester Professor K. Jagasia had given the class a syllabus that stated expected student learning objectives. Between both classes, English 1001 and English 0920, there was a total of twenty learning outcomes. Within these outcomes I believe I was able to accomplish them all. Although, I have learned many things in my high school English classes, however I was able to comprehend the information more clearly. As I was going over an assignment that was given at the beginning of the semester I was able to recognize majority of the mistakes I have had throughout it. Although I am not the prefect writer I will now know …show more content…
In the syllabus given to the class the first day, there was a bold heading called expected student learning outcomes. Throughout this bolded heading, I believe there has been a result of all twenty of these outcomes. For an example, one of the outcomes was organize and develop ideas effectively and logically in essays. Throughout the semester I was able to make my papers more organized and develop more ideas to put into my assignments. Therefore, I was able to not only complete the assignment, but I was able to reach the necessary length. At the beginning of the semester I did not come into the class knowing the rights and the wrong of plagiarism, but by the end of the semester I was able to complete a paper without plagiarism. This this being said, I will still have to go back and look to make sure that I am putting my sources in correctly so I do not get punished for it. Even though I believe that I have accomplished these outcomes, I may at times need a little assistance in the …show more content…

My ability to research and determine if sources are legit has improved and it will be easier for me to write in the future. I have learnt that good college writing requires time and to write a good paper its best to write a little everyday rather than to get overwhelmed the day the assignment is due. I have learnt to plan my papers, and work based off the rubric. I still need to improve on my grammar because I have consistently lost points in the clear and effective writing section of each rubric. I mostly lose points for the portion that grades if the paper is polished and edited.…

However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback.…

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

I am from an inherently rural area. I had little to know experience with ELLs until I came to Juniata. In cities, anywhere you go you are bound to meet an ELL, but in my town I only knew one, the Italian old lady who owns the OIP. With the low incidence of ELLs in my area I never really thought about the lack of resources we have to help them. Some important things to think about are the teacher’s lack of ELL experience in low incidence ELL areas, instructional methods, use of the primary language, and the affect of afterschool programs.…

As an English learner, I have experienced many challenges during the learning process, yet I haven’t given up my hope. Writing had always been one of my difficult challenges, but the desire inside of me learning new things always push me to accept the challenges. In fact, learning a new language stays always challenging to every person. However, English 111 class has taught me many things that I never thought I will do it. The first assignment that we did a reading response to Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Draft” has taught me that people learn from their mistakes, and nobody is perfect.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
