I have to say this class somehow opened my mind in the relationship with people. I did not expect there were so many things that need to learn and practice to understand others and myself. For example, in a group project I was placed in a group with different age, sex, ethnic and personality. I somehow end up became the lead person in the group which is something that I never see myself to be based on the understanding of my own personality. After few weeks of unsuccessful communication with the group members, I had learned everyone are different and I can’t expect them to do it my way. Therefore, I had to change my style to approach them with a communication flow style to be able to get things done. I feel that having an opportunity of communicating to people with different background and communication style while you can observing at the same time is an effective exercise. The best way to overcome challenge is to face it and defeat it.

We are all familiar with those teen comedies following the same storyline where the awkward shy girl meets the boy of her dreams and ends up befriending everyone in school. Well, that girl is me, except I don’t get the boy or the insane popularity or the happy ending, not yet anyway. Maybe my life will find some parallels to those typical high school movies, but that time isn’t now. Moving definitely decreased my chances of that ever happening and transformed my perspective on the world around me to this day. I am a person who never liked change, so moving away from my friends and going to a new school was devastatingly terrifying.…

Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…
