Operant Conditioning Approach

Operant conditioning is one type of learning behaviour theory that developed by B. F. Skinner in 1938. It is a behaviour designed to people in a way that will gain something desired or avoiding something unpleasant. It is also known as Law of Effect. Furthermore, learning behaviour is controlled by the consequences of the behaviour itself which are reinforcement or punishment. Besides, both consequences have their own positive and negative event which will result new behaviour development in future. The consequences can either increase the probability of the behaviour or reduce the probability of the behaviour to occur. Thus, there are many technique of operant conditioning approach used by Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (SLP) in treating their patients.

2.0 Operant Conditioning in Speech Language Pathology (SLP)

In addition, patient with aphasia are recommended to use the application of contemporary alternate augmentative communication systems (AAC) and programs of instruction as melodic intonation therapy in a way to approach them to aphasia therapy (Goldfarb, R., 2006). This is because, behavioral theory also helps to assist the development of socially valued adaptive skill by which an individual performance can be monitored and examine.
