IMPROVING THE NURSING PROFESSION THROUGH INCLUSIVE INFORMATICS AND HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES
INTRODUCTION
Delivery of quality health service cannot be achieved without the availability of information, as this often facilitates the making of effective decision on patient’s health. Every nursing activity depends on knowledge based on information. This information includes the knowledge of the job, ability to use modern technology to deliver quality health service, obtaining and communicating assessment and keeping proper records in an easy to retrieve manner. Improving nursing profession, therefore requires that certain approaches be mainstreamed into the way knowledge are acquired and nursing activities conducted.

NURSING INFORMATIC (NI)
Drawing strength from the above, Nursing Informatics (NI) is a specialist that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. Nursing informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision maligning in all roles and settings. This is usually achieved through the use of information structures, information processes, and information technology (ANA, 2008, P. 92).
There is no doubt that Informatics contributes to the discipline of nursing by connecting the art of nursing to the science of nursing. The updated ANA scope and standards for nursing informatics includes redirecting the discussion on roles from job titles to functions that may be integrated into various NI roles and sub specializations. Nursing informatics provides the support for information management for all of the nursing specialties. Indeed, some school of thoughts believe that, to improve patients care, and enhance nursing education and nursing practice, information technology and nursing informatics should be integrated for improved healthcare
