Reflective Essay: Developing My Leadership Skills

An entire organization can take after the character of its leader. It seems that there are too many corrupt leaders in this day and age who don’t create a safe, productive atmosphere for work to be done. I think it is important to develop my leadership skills so I can ensure that no one in my future workplace feels unwelcome, taken advantage of, or left out of the group. With the development of these skills, I will be able to better understand other people, learn how to be empathic, and help people to their full potential (also help myself to my full potential). Interpersonal Skills: I have great strengths in terms of relationship building skills. I have had plenty of relationship experience and being on campus has taught me even more about making new relationships. I think I have a grip on what is required to make a relationship work. I am mostly strong in communication skills. I know how to address people and am normally good at communicating with people one way or another (in person, email, phone calls). In previous leadership positions, I have had to communicate with my entire class. Coordinating class events takes serious communication and is not an easy task. My only weakness with communication may be that I do not have much experience with other cultures which is a skill I plan to develop. I believe I have very strong ethics and will have no problem incorporating them in my leadership practices. I have had experience with team development as a captain of my soccer team. I have had to watch over a group of girls who were not friends outside of soccer. I had to help keep a good dynamic within the team and makes sure the girls had plenty of bonding experiences. I got to know them all individually and it was very interesting. It will be interesting to lead a more diverse group of people and help them
