Importance Of Inhibition Efficiency Of Polymers

tract
The inhibition efficiency of polymers are highly dependent on group functionalities as well as adsorption characteristics, electronic properties, and molecular weight. The modification of these properties pave the way for future research in inhibitor technology.
Introduction
The inherent protection of metals and their alloys used in industry are of the upmost importance when it comes to longevity and reliability of structures. Many chemical compounds have been developed over the years that can inhibit the corrosion rate of metal alloys but cost effectiveness, toxicity, processibility and other factors limit the applications1. The need for new, eco-friendly and cost effective corrosion inhibitors have led to research in the field of polymer chemistry.
Discussion
The performance of a polymeric corrosion inhibitor is a function of its size and number of functional anchoring groups1. The anchoring groups allow the polymer to adsorb to the metal surface and assist in corrosion mitigation. Other main factors that influence corrosion protection are molecular size, weight, pH, and composition.
It has been observed that adsorption characteristics of a polymer strongly depend on

It would be ideal to know the interactions between functional groups and how they can be used to potentially increase inhibition efficiency. A possible approach to predicting the characteristics of chemical structures is through the use of quantum chemistry. Frontier orbitals are the predominant force that determines reactivity within a molecule and can be chemically composed to meet certain requirements. The best corrosion inhibitors typically have electron-rich functional groups such as nitrogen, oxygen, or aromatic rings that can donate electron density and adsorb readily to the metal surface7. Knowing these facts, it is possible to design a good polymeric corrosion

In a typical example, 1 g c-PEO-OH was dissolved in 30 mL anhydrous N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent under dry argon atmosphere, to which 10 mL 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide was added at 0 °C dropwise for 30 min under vigorous stirring. The reaction mixture was then allowed to proceed at room temperature for 1 d. After that, the solution was concentrated by reduced pressure distillation to remove NMP solvent and excess 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. The crude product was then washed with saturated aqueous solution of NaHCO3 and water sequentially for 3 times, dried over MgSO4, and precipitated in cold n-hexane to obtain a final brown viscous product. (Boy, that makes sense, doesn't it - given that polymers are made by hooking up one molecule after another after another after another.....) For example, look at polypropylene (sounds like polly-pro-pill-een): Its backbone chain is made up of just two carbon atoms repeated over and over again. One carbon atom has two hydrogen atoms attached to it, and the other carbon atom has one hydrogen atom and one pendant methyl group (CH3). (What's a pendant group?…

Competitive inhibitors specifically work by preventing the development of enzyme-substrate complexes because they have a similar form to the substrate particle (Day, 2015). In this case, the competitive inhibitor parahydroxybenzoic acid, also known as 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (National Center for Biotechnology Information), has a similar shape to catechol oxidase and the inhibitor competes with catechol oxidase for the active site. However, once the inhibitor has attached itself to the active site there is no reaction. The competitive inhibitor simply gets in the way of the enzyme activity. (Clark, 2009)…

Pentane and Diethylamine have many similarities, but they also have their differences. Pentane comes from the Greek word pente meaning “five” as the atom is comprised of five carbon atoms as shown in the formula C5H12. Some characteristics of the molecule is that it gives off a gasoline-like odor, generally does not have a color, and is a liquid. Pentane is commonly used in fuels, building construction materials, explosive materials, food packaging, paint, liquid chromatography, and toys just to name a few. Diethylamine is comprised of the formula C4H11N. Some characteristics of Diethylamine include an ammonia-like odor, and similar to Pentane, Diethylamine is a colorless liquid.…

N-Vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) and its copolymers attracting much attention and have been widely investigated for applications in different field due to its low toxicity, biocompatibility and good film forming (Hemalatha et al. 2014; Anasuya; Lee et al. 2007). The amide group in NVP is highly polar, which confirms it’s hydrophilic. NVP has been copolymerized with various monomers because the amide group has high affinity for many large and small molecules that are known to be good hydrogen-bond acceptors (Jin et al. 2013; Santanakrishnan et al. 2012; Arosio et al. 2011). NVP has been copolymerized with various siloxane derivatives monomers such as vinyl triethoxy silane (Gatica et al. 2003), vinyl trimethoxy silane, vinyl trimethyl silane (Gatica et al. 1998),…

Comparing the Absorptivity of Two Sequestration Agents Macy Freireich* & Alekhya Geddan ABSTRACT In this experiment it was decided which sequestration agent, charcoal or magnetic bentonite clay, was more effective at absorbing the PAH model, Procion Red MX-5B. By way of spectrophotometry, the collected absorptivity and concentration values of each of the diluted samples of the Porcion Red MX-5B were graphed and evaluated in comparison to the measured absorptivity of the dye extracted from samples of magnetic bentonite clay and of charcoal through filtration. From the data collected in this experiment, it was found that charcoal was a more effective alternative to use as an absorbing agent in rivers to clear the water of harmful PAHs. INTRODUCTION…

The objective of this published research is to explore how host-targeted antiviral agents, specifically cyclophilin A (CypA) inhibitors, serve as a more effective and safer treatment option for the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). The current available treatment options for this virus have many toxic properties and the virus is now developing a strong drug resistance against the commonly used agents. This virus is deadly, as it is the major cause of end-stage liver disease, so the development of new treatment options is highly needed. Through the use of virtual screening, the bis-amide derivative was discovered, which is the key component is creating this new treatment option. Through this derivative, many bis-amide compounds were synthesized and…
