With me having an idea, now I needed to create a business plan. My business plan consisted of how I was going to incorporate my brand, how it was going to be promoted, an explanation of how the bag worked, the investment opportunities, target market, how we were different from other brands, and the potential we had. Coming up with a business plan takes a lot of writing, thinking, and research. My choices of incorporating was to either venture out on my own or fly with a well-known brand. I went with the less complicated route and chose to incorporate with Nike. With me incorporating with Nike, I didn’t have to worry about marketing costs, proving ourselves to customers, and my idea being stolen by large worldly-known companies. Marketing becomes easier with the help of Nike since they already have the money, athletes, and marketing strategies. We worked on by doing actual presentations in class to watching Shark Tank as preparations. Having to present to the judges was probably the easiest part because I have been practicing all year long. The day of the competition I was very calm and had my presentations memorized. Until I went around to talk to other competitors, another student’s innovation was about using feces to generate power. Now if you were in the same position with me with a cooling/heating backpack, you will suddenly be struck with anxiety. Hearing what my competitor had just made me want to present my innovation at my best. Before I came into the judges’ room, I was expecting something intimidating like Shark Tank but the judges gave off a more smoothing vibe. Later in the day my advisor told me that I had advanced to the next round where I had to present to six judges at one. The next day I had ran into the competitor I had meant the day before and found out that he didn’t make to the next round. I was so surprised that I had advance but my feces-powered competitor didn’t. He told me that he didn’t come up with a well-planned business plan and had too much information on the science part of his innovation. After presenting to the next set of judges, next was seeing if I placed in the top five for nationals or not. Next thing I knew, my school and my name was being called for third place in
