Egyptian Mummification and Science
The Ancient Egyptians reigned from 3000 BC to 332 BC in what is considered today to be Northern Africa and the Middle East. Though just one of several civilisations that thrived during this era, the Ancient Egyptian is considered by modern scientist to have been the most advanced country for their time. Many of their advances are still used today, especially in the area of medicine, human physiology and other sciences. “They first wash the body in palm oil and ran it with water from the Nile. One of them makes a cut in the left side of the body. They used this cut in the body to take out many of the internal organs which are the first to decompose. The liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines are washed and packed in natron which dries them out. A long hook smashes the brain and takes it out through the nose. The body is stuffed up and covered up with Natron which dries up the body. All of the body’s fluids and the embalming process rags are saved and buried with the body. After forty days, the body is put in the Nile water again to wash the body off. In order for the skin to stay elastic, they put oils on the body. During the test the deceased heart is weighed, if they had a pure heart, it would be lighter than a feather and they could pass to eternal life. If he did not have a pure heart, his heart would be heavier than the feather and they would be eaten by a crocodile-headed god called Sobek.
In conclusion, the Egyptians had a lot of tech and they still have an influence on the world. Their medicine and use of medical techniques that helped identify illness that are still around today like tumors are still used. Egyptian culture have influenced the way people take care of dead bodies in modern times. Today, people put their dead in coffins like how the Ancient Egyptians buried their dead in sarcophaguses was.
