Courage is what makes people extraordinary individuals. It does not matter how small you are, with courage, you have a stronger conscience and you are able to fight through tough circumstances. Harper Lee powerfully demonstrates the importance of this virtue in, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Three characters express this virtue to get through their toughest issues. Jem Atticus Finch is fearless and he shows that with courage people can conquer their fears, Dolphus is also a courageous man and he shows that humans have to have courage to fight for what is right, and Atticus is very brave and shows the person that in any situation, no matter how hard it is, courage helps human beings persevere and beat problems that may be impossible to defeat.
Facing fears and helping someone, who disrespects a loved one, is very tough and sometimes people do not have the ingredients to overcome those situations. Jeremy Atticus Finch (Jem) has the best ingredient to beat his rough circumstances, and that is courage. He displays courage through numerous of ways throughout the novel. Jem is fearless and he sets a great example for Scout, Dolphus Raymond is courageous enough to live the way he wants even though his way is against what his community feels is right, and Atticus is brave enough to stand up for anyone no matter what race they are in.
