Throughout the course of my five days at the SAHETI primary school, I found myself astonished at various activities that are done throughout the day. Through the course of my practical, I was given a Grade two class to observe and I unquestionably discovered a recently developed love for that age group. I was always adamant from the first time I knew I wanted to become a teacher that I wanted to teach Grade one’s, but my thoughts have definitely evolved. During the course of my observing I was more than willing to help with various activities such as marking, doing spelling tests with the children, as well as helping them with any difficulties they were having with their work. I have gained a lot of experience after helping out with the activities and my knowledge for teaching has grown immensely. I definitely see teachers in a new light and I do believe that a lot of time, effort and love go into helping a child. …show more content…
I was surprised at how well mannered the children are as well as how willing they are to learn. Grade two has changed so much since I was that age. I remember grade two being my absolute favourite year filled with countless amounts of colouring and cursive. However, I see it different now. I was astounded at the level of literacy the children have to learn. They learn a new idiom every week such as “ still waters run deep.” I was also surprised at how appalling children’s concentration has become. I believe it’s due to technology as children hardly play outside anymore. Parents put them in front of iPads and TV to keep them quiet instead of educating them and teaching them to play outside. My child observation and classroom observation took place at the Mt. San Jacinto Child Development and Education center in the preschool/pre-k (ages 36 months to 54 months) program room. This classroom has 2 teachers and 15 children in attendance during my observation. My study child is a male student age 4 who for this assignment I will refer to as C. The classroom environment as a whole can handle the children within the program, however I will provide a better picture of the entire room to have a clear picture for reflection. As a child walking into this classroom you feel a sense of warmth of both the environment and also from the teacher as she greats all her children individually.…

My observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s 5th grade class this week started after lunch during their math time. On Wednesday, their schedule had been different from normal and there was two other teachers in the classroom teaching them about different types of rocks. On Thursday, a sixth grade math teacher came to the classroom to further explain what they had been learning about conversions, and to tell them about what they would learn next year when they went to sixth grade.. During arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon, the same routine is followed on almost all days. In the morning, the students go wait in the gym and are picked up by the teacher when the first bell rings.…

My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it.…

Over winter break, I had the opportunity to work as a substitute preschool teacher at the Jewish Community Center of Columbus Ohio. I was placed in the Turtle Room, the classroom for two to three year olds. Since a large part of the student population is Jewish, the preschool cafeteria only provided Kosher foods. I distinctly remember one day talking to the lead teacher in the classroom, Amanda about how one little boy, Henry would never eat his lunch or snacks. Henry would stick to only the foods that he knew like mandarin oranges or carrots and that was all he would eat.…

In the past month, I have been traveling to Williams Middle School in Florence, South Carolina to observe a dance educator and Coker alumni, Ashley Lesage. After the opportunity of observing twice, there were a few things I agreed with and did not agree with as far as the students and teaching methods. September 15, 2016 was my first time observing in Ms. Lesage’s classroom. One of the first things I noticed amongst the students were their clothing attire. In a dance studio, usually an observer would see leotards, tights, leggings, t-shirt, and a tanktop.…

I found it quite interesting how in public schools in the Chicago area I have experienced seeing how teachers treat children differently. Inside an early start Pre-k class beforehand the teacher and her assistant gave me a bit of information about the students to retain when I had to work with them one-on-one. Furthermore in the process of them informing me of their behaviors, what to expect, what not to expect, and reasons why some have some sorts of trouble do to their families background. She emphasized more so on the boys in the class rather than the girls. Additionally, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Jessica Diaz, is still extremely helpful and even allows me to teach the students in small-groups.
