Why is conservation important:
Conservation is the protection and maintenance of populations of plants and animals. It requires the protection of ecosystems and the biodiversity in these ecosystems. 'Biological diversity – or biodiversity – is the term given to the variety of life on Earth. It is the variety within and between all species of plants, animals and micro-organisms and the ecosystems within which they live and interact.'(Wwf.org.au, n.d.) Every organism plays an important role in their ecosystem and they are all connected in some way which means if the population size of one organism declines or goes extinct the condition of the ecosystem could fall dramatically. Biodiversity conservation involves saving life on the planet and maintaining natural ecosystems. Conservation biology is a practice that as grown massively in the past few decades and is increasing the awareness and understanding of how much we as humans depend on natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
