Through this block I feel like I have started to accept that being put out your comfort zone isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I have learned to appreciate that being out of my comfort zone gives me the opportunity to try a lot of new things which helps me to grow and improve. For example when I was asked to take welcome time for the first time, I was so nervous because I didn’t know what to expect or how the children would react. However when I actually done it I felt like my confidence really improved. It gave me the experience of a more formal setting with the children, in comparison to play, and the children were very well behaved and very responsive to me. However since taking welcome time for the first time and seeing how responsive the children were I now realise that wasn’t the case. I can now understand that just because one thing doesn’t go very well I shouldn’t make an overall assumption about the situation. I see that as long as I am interactive, fun and having a good time then the children will often be very attentive and will have a good time also.
From this block it has been made clear that I am lacking in some in some self-belief which has always been a huge problem from me. I do overthink some things and take them a bit too literally but I feel that identifying this is the first step in the right direction. I can now make attempts to have a bit more faith in myself and what I am doing. Hopefully by doing so it will show through in my actions meaning I can come across more confident and self-assured.
From a professional perspective I can now understand the importance of having good communication skills when trying to tell a child what they are doing is wrong. I can see that in this area my skills need a bit more developing which will hopefully happen with the more time I spend within the nursery. However I did realise that I have good leadership qualities which have shown through during welcome time.
