1. Why do you want to be a START Leader?
As a first-year student, finishing the winter semester soon, being a start leader provides me with an opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge with many of the new students entering in Fall 2018 semester. I feel that I can best relate to help students transition smoothly to become acquainted with on- campus resources such as the library services, IT services, Humber Learning Resources, Accessible Learning Services, Peer Tutoring, Writing and Math Center, Quiet Study, Security and Safety Department and many more resources. I also want students to be comfortable to engage in conversations with their peers or professors to create their own positive social environment.

The business program at the University of Guelph- Humber offers unique insights through many theoretical viewpoints but also allows students to apply that knowledge in the real world. The knowledge you attain will vary from several fields in accounting, finance, economics, human resources management, marketing, information technology and see how they relate to one another. The first two years the courses students choose will be mandatory, to allow students to decide on which course they liked the best leading them to a major they will pursue in year 3 and year 4.
In addition, to completing a minimum of 100-hour job placement to practice those skills you attained and apply it. Many of the course related assignments you complete will be in groups, to get students to practice their skills, stimulate ideas, work together and create a presentation where all team members have formed a unified agreement of the topic. Similarly, in the real workforce many of the task you complete will sometimes depend on other people and it’s important to develop the skills of working with all people to promote inclusivity. Through this the student will obtain both an Honors of Bachelor of Business Administration and a diploma in Business

Some of these resources include peer tutoring, math center, accessible learning center, accounting center, library services and others. Personally, I found the accounting center really helpful as I not only got to learn about the concepts I was struggling with, but I got to make a new friend. I also, really enjoyed the Quiest Study area, as it was a place where I could sit down and focus to finish any readings I needed to catch up on. Another great resource, is the Guelph-Humber and Humber presentation rooms, where me and my fellow teammates got to sit in a reserved space to focus on the group assignments.
In addition, the University of Guelph-Humber offers many employment opportunities through their online GHWorks website and by hosting many job fairs. These employment opportunities help students apply the theory they learn to a practical based application in the real

I would have. The reason I would have let Paul go by his request is because no business needs an individual that treats their workers the way he does and because of his insubordination towards higher ups. His actions during the meeting should show you the way he carries himself at work. Ways businesses are dealing with these situations are by making sure to document all interactions with employees. Also companies are stepping up the way they recruit employees.…

There are so many dimensions to counseling; guiding students with their academic path, creating an environment where they feel safe and supported, being a counselor and identifying risk factors. Beyond these dimensions however I believe the two most important characteristic when defining a counselor are adaptability and resilience. Academic counselors come across diverse populations and I believe there is no standard process when guiding students. The counselor should actively listen to the student and build a professional relationship in order to build trust. Equally important is the ability of the counselor to be resilient and to teach resilience.…

I’m all too familiar with the process of finding a “purpose,” a quest that brought me to a meeting with my sophomore year Resident Director, Dylan Larke. As a first generation immigrant student, my university felt foreign and unwelcoming. My resident director listened as I painted my situation verbally; telling him that despite a lackluster first experience in college, I have this ardent desire to do more with my undergraduate career. I don’t remember the exact passage of our meeting, but it was through Dylan’s encouragement that I resolved to pursue active involvement on campus by running, and later elected, as a House Council Executive. My first leadership and student involvement in House Council led to a slew of campus involvement, specifically in Residential Life.…
