The reason is the combinatorial expansion of the solution space due to the different permutations of the spaces. Henceforth, there has been many efforts to tackle the problem. We categorize the different approaches into different domains which researchers have worked upon to produce an optimal solution for providing the architect with multiple designs. We have identified four different domains: Building the design, Analysis of the design, Optimization of designs and Computer Aided Tools for creating …show more content…
Given a shape we apply the transformation rules to convert the previous shape into a new one [19].
In [21], shape rules are used to create chain of rectangles, given the spatial relationship between different spaces, we can apply shape rules in different ways. For example:
3. LITERATURE REVIEW
The work on Architectural Space Planning has been started from the mid-1960s. Among the commencement works, in 1963, Buffa and Armor [4] created a program called CRAFT which uses normal Brute Force to generate all the enumerations of locations, hence it was inefficient. After this much work was done in the upcoming years to speed up the process by using different techniques and algorithms.
A survey of different approaches used for architectural space planning has been done in [37]. It also reviews some of the then available software for producing space layout automatically. A comprehensive review of Facility Layout Planning with Evolutionary Approaches can be found in [35] and with only Genetic Algorithms can be found in [36]. We divide our literature review in different sections where we will take a look at work done in every methodology in a chronological
