During the Kargil war, in 1999, the Press Information Bureau put out a press release stating "(the) yearning for moksha (salvation) can move the devotees to the challenging heights of Kashmir and will be a fitting gesture of solidarity with our valiant soldiers who have been fighting the enemy to defend our borders".
The state also with the help of the yatra is trying to induce the feeling of ‘belonging to India’ in the people of the Jammu and Kashmir. Some say that the state by advocating this yatra is actually trying to take over the control of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and especially Kashmir valley where a lot of separatist propagandas are going on. The state is also trying to show to the people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir that the state will always be with them by promoting the yatra in a way that the locals’ i.e., Kashmiris are given employment. As we all know, many people in Kashmir work and earn only for two to three months a year as the rest of the year the climatic condition will not be favourable and almost all the cities will be shut for this long span; providing employment to the unemployed in Kashmir will build confidence in the people of
