Vitamins Synthesis

Improved Essays
Vitamins are the organic compounds required to carry out a living body’s metabolism and their absence can clump several metabolic reactions in the body. These essential nutrients cannot be synthesized in the body therefore must be taken from an outside food source i.e. plants, fruits, vegetables or animals. Basically there are two types of vitamins in nature; some are water soluble and others are the fat soluble ones. Water soluble vitamins are those which are soluble only in water and are B vitamins which include vitamin B6, vitamin B12, Niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, Thiamin (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin(Vitamin B2) and vitamin C(Ascorbic acid). These vitamins are first absorbed into the intestine and then passed to the blood and then …show more content…
Though there should not be high temperature for it as it is seen that it becomes the cause for the loss of vitamin D up to 20% or more in milk. Therefore for the extraction of vitamin D a mixture of petroleum ether and diethyl ether is mixed in an equal ratio, but vitamin A also got extracted with it, so to get pure vitamin D we should prepare a mixture of (6:4) ratio of ethanol with water and results showed to be prominent and a high quantity of vitamin D is extracted. Moreover vitamin E can also be extracted from this method, but by hot saponification. Vitamin E can be extracted from meat by adding methanol (KOH) and also ascorbic acid, and then being heated up to 80 to 90 degree Celsius for 45 minutes. The sample is left to cool and after that hexane/toluene mixture is added and sample is being shaken for 10 minutes and then also being centrifuged so that layer separation occurs and vitamin E is easily …show more content…
Actually the solvent breaks the lipoproteins bonds. For the lipid lineage a mixture of methanol and chloroform in ratio of (2:1) is used. If doing for milk then treat the milk with an ammonia solution and also alcohol and then cool it then extract with petroleum ether mixture. This results in protein precipitation which is soluble in ammonia and fat is extracted from this method. For vitamin A Hexane is used as the solvent and after the addition of water centrifugation is done which separates out layers and upper layer contains vitamin A with hexane which is then

Following the addition of 3 mL diethyl ether, the Separatory Funnel could be utilized in order to separate the organic and aqueous layers of the solution. The same funnel process was performed after the addition of 3 mL of saturated Sodium Chloride solution to the previously isolated organic layer. Once separated, sodium sulfate could be used to dry the product followed by the addition of 1-2 drops of product to 1 mL of diethyl ether, yielding the desired…

Different tissues in our body can cross-talk during fasting and fed state via hormonal regulation. Two major hormones, insulin and glucagon, play an important role in regulating metabolic homeostasis by inducing different responses from tissues such as liver, adipose tissue, and muscle. During fed state, insulin promotes glucose uptake in the muscle and adipose tissue and stimulates glycogen and fatty acid synthesis in the liver. At the same time, it inhibits lipolysis and hepatic glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. On the other hand, glucagon during fasting state would induce the opposite responses.…

Abstract For this experiment the amount of zinc in vitamin water had to be determined. To do this, three methods were applied. The first was by a calibration plot method, where zinc standards were prepared and from the absorbance of those standards a calibration curve was plotted, which in turn was used to determine the amount of zinc in vitamin water. The second method was standard addition.…
