Evidence-based practice (EBP) is incorporated throughout the health care field to improve patient care and organizational outcomes. The implementation of EBP relies on the infrastructure and culture of a facility. It is the job of the nurse manager to promote a culture in the facility that allows staff the ability to accept change and grow. The purpose of this discussion is to discuss how an organizational infrastructure and culture plays a part in implementing EBP. I will also be discussing my facilities process in implementing EBP. The organizational infrastructure has a direct effect on how EBP is implemented. Depending on the type of organization, determines who has the power to initiate EBP, the interventions for EBP, and how the EBP will be …show more content…
The culture is a standardized set of ideas that all members of the healthcare team share (Huber, 2014). The culture of the team determines how well they are receptive to implementing new EBP. The nurse manager needs to promote a positive culture. Positive culture ensures high productivity and job satisfaction. This influences motivation to learn new ideas and implement changes. When the culture of a job is negative, resistance is met and implementation is not successful. The team should feel important, educated, and involved during the implementation of a new EBP. This ensures a positive culture (Gallagher-Ford, 2013). The process of implementing a new EBP in the facility I currently am in employed at is through presenting the new idea or problem to the interdisciplinary team. This team consist of the administrator, director of nursing, MDS coordinator, nursing managers, therapy, and dietary. The team works together in order to figure out a solution and how to implement the EBP in the facility. When new EBP is utilized in the facility, education and support is provided to all staff members to sure positive and effective
