The economy of the Aztecs was greatly affected after the Spanish arrived. The Spanish conquest was a rampage across South America where the Spanish set out to conquer new lands. The Spanish from the other side of the Atlantic brought over many things such as onions, turnips, grapes, citrus fruits, peaches, coffee, bananas, grains ,livestock, and olives. ("Columbian Exchange", 2017) While the Aztecs traded things such as corn, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, turkeys, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, peppers, tobacco, pineapples, cacao, and beans. ("Columbian Exchange", 2017) Although the wonderful world of trade was booming there were some negatives in the exchange. For example the Spanish brought many animals that affected the natural land. The pigs brought over from Spain ate the iguanas and shellfish that were native to the land. The exchange did affect the animals on the island, but it affected the people more as a slave empire was built in Mesoamerica. ("Impact of the Spanish conquest", 2017) This caused the slave market in America to be what it was in the 1800's and caused many years of trouble for most people.
