In the 1950’s Aamerica was starting to change. Many things were created and renovated. Because of the Cold War, the Soviets and the Americans were competing for many things, this arose the space race.
NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. It was created on October 1, 1958 (Launching NASA). On October 4, 1957 the soviet union sent out an artificial satellite called Sputnik and because of this, the US saw it fit to create their own space program to compete with the Soviet Union. Before NASA was created, the NRL conducted the first american satellite program called project Vanguard. In 1957, because suitable satellite-launching facilities were not available, NRL constructed the first complete satellite-launching facility at Cape Canaveral, Florida (Vanguard Project). Because of this, it impacted the 50s financially and in entertainment, to name a few. When NASA first started it had a budget of $100 million annually(NASA on the Screen big and Small). In the entertainment industry, NASA was a big hit. “Forbidden Planet” and a television series called “Lost in Space” were created during the 50s and 60s. NASA contributes still so much today. NASA is on the brink of going to Mars, they’ve made the Hubble telescope to take pictures of space and all its glory, NASA has done so much for the research Americans have today about
