While there are countless of individual examples of immigrants benefiting the American workforce economy over the years, economist Adam Smith sums the reason behind this fact better than most: “the secret of economic growth is specialization.” citation An economy in which citizens are forced to grow their own vegetables, build their own goods and repair or maintain their possessions doesn 't incubate productivity in the way that specialization does. Many of the jobs held by even illegal immigrants are not desirable to the average American worker. By having an immigrant workforce available to fill the gaps in our workforce, more jobs and consumers of goods are created.
