Yet, the city I was staying is in California - San Jose. The surrounding people mostly are Mexican, Chinese, and Indian, that not the New York style Imaged. After few years college life, I found out my passion because of the place of California has changed my environmental protection sense. Recycling, solar power, sustainable building design, and hybrid car that are the things I had experienced every day.

After the basic general course I had told in college, I transferred to the University of California, Davis, that is one of the famous and high world ranking college in the environmental and agricultural major. This admission was unbelievable for the new immigrant could be accepted to the top 20 of the environmental major in the college. My internship with California State Assemblyman David Hadley has catalyzed an important inner-dialogue regarding the hierarchy of my ideals. As an intern, part of my job is to respond to letters about legislation that the office receives from constituents. I generally skim the letters and research relevant information for five minutes before I start writing as the Assemblyman. Every letter begins, “Dear Mr. XX” and ends “Sincerely, Your Assemblyman.” In between those two bookends, I write what seems like overly vague statements from David Hadley’s perspective, creating the illusion that he wrote the response instead of I, an eighteen-year-old high school student.…

After immigrating to the United States, with virtually no English skills, I was lonely. I recall trying to talk with girls at school and not even being able to share the simplest of stories with them. My every attempt to build friendships failed. As a social person, who is invigorated by conversation, this was crushing. I could not even share similar experiences with them due to the financial struggles my immigrant family faced.…

Being an immigrant and having arrived at the United States when I was already a teenager, I consider myself to be a disadvantage applicant. My parent came here, like many other immigrants, to work hard in order to give me the opportunity to have a better future. They did everything on their hands so that I could focus on my studies, but the money never seemed to be enough. Thanks to the assistance that the government gave us with food stamps we were able to buy food, however, health care was not as available to us. My parents did not have money to pay for health insurance, and even though my mom is a diabetic, once they took the Medicaid away she was not able to continue her treatment.…

It was a tedious night in the office with a profusion of paperwork, and waiting around for for felonious acts to be committed. So as, just to alleviate the monotony in the small room. I remember the how the ring of the incoming call suffused its way throughout the room until all eyes found the source of it. I couldn’t wait to see what vermin we got to clean off of the streets today, for our moral citizens’ sake. I hoped it wouldn’t be a false plea or a call from an official.…

In school, things were a little different besides being a year behind all the rest of the students because of my situation, I was always the outsider in my class, whether it was because I did not know English when I started school or just because I was not from the United States. It got to the point that I would lie about being from Mexico just so that I was accepted by my pairs in school and not looked at as an outsider. All through elementary and middle school the self-imposed pressure of doing well in school took me to the point where I was labeled as academically gifted, but in all honestly, I strived to be the best so that I would no longer be the outsider but the smart kid in the class. When I was given the opportunity to join Early College Academy (ECA), I knew that attending a program like ECA would change my life even if it was at the cost of losing most of my friends and no longer playing the sports I liked. To me, joining ECA was a decision like no one else’s, for I knew that getting two years’ worth of college for free was something that I might not be able to get down the…

Being raised by first generation immigrants, I have learned to value the dreams, aspirations, culture, religion and perspectives of all people, regardless of their racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I grew up in a Persian culture and have been taught by my parents to respect and value the wide variety of cultures and beliefs. A major factor in how my parents instilled the idea of respect for others in me was by regularly attending multicultural programs in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley, California. Participating in cultural and social events at these programs has given me the opportunity to mingle with individuals of different backgrounds who each bring a different perspective to conversations and environment. But should it be associated with whether you are republican or democrat? Global warming should not be rather you “believe” in because it is a stated fact. Many individuals do not know the correct definition and what global warming should mean to them. The definition by the Oxford Dictionary declares that global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth 's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants (Oxford Dictionary).…
