Today, approximately 11.7 million illegal immigrants live in the U.S, laying low in their daily life, and unknown by many (New York Times). The Federation for American Immigration Reform claims that each year illegal immigrants cost American taxpayers approximately one-hundred billion dollars. On top of this, Arizona Treasurer Dean Martin, says that immigrants cause many issues due to their position. This includes immigrants stealing cars as a form of transportation, hit-and-runs, and the costs of incarcerating and deporting them (ABC News). However, the Immigration Policy Center expresses that because immigrants don’t collect medical benefits and often pay many different forms of taxes, the numbers are inaccurate (ABC News). In addition, illegal immigrants often work under the table at jobs that pay less than minimum wage. The work that they do and for the price that they do it only exists because they support our economy by doing the jobs that so many others would never do (The Hill.com). Furthermore, the only reason hit-and runs by illegal immigrants occur so often is because they fear authority, and more deportations happen when the government chooses to do so. The Arizona Immigration Law results in only more of the problems it was trying to solve.
