Identity. Identity, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, is the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. In other words, it is who you are and what makes up who you are. For example, someone’s identity could be the artist who makes paintings about same sex love or the writer who makes stories on a girl who surpassed the standards of her religion . The concept of identity is real easy to understand. My opinion on “Identity” is that no one no matter what someone’s identity is everybody should be treated equally. For instance, if you believe in a religion, or maybe a have a certain political view, or are of asian descent, you shouldn’t be frowned upon because of it. In the film, she was introduced as a bad friend by Margo Spiegelman (one of the main characters) for minding her own business by not telling her that her boyfriend was cheating on her and by her honest opinion that she was slimmer than her. We also see Ben’s perspective of her (which later changes) which is that she’s this attractive goddess with large breasts. I say this relates because of how Lacey is mistreated by people's perspective of her. Everybody judges her by these little bits of her image but not her actual identity.
The film Bend It Like Beckham relates to the film because it discusses discrimination of identity many ways. I talks about how girls get judged for the main character Jesminder, also known as “Jess”, not doing feminine activities and doing manlier activities (like playing soccer), discrimination against race because she gets bullied for being a Pakistani girl in england, and sexuality because of her male friend Tony being gay.
