Identify The Different Types Of People In High School

Improved Essays
There are three kinds of people in high school. There are the kids that are always in a relationship and always talking to someone, then there’s the kids that never are in a relationships and are always partying or out with their friends. Then, there’s the kids that are neither of those, they do their own thing and enjoy being at the comfort of their home every weekend. Although these are three extremes of high school, people tend to get put into these three categories. These labels and standards tend to affect students and their high school experience dramatically. Here is how.
Being that third party of a label is very common in high school. You don’t really have a close group of friends and don’t like going to social events. Your favorite pass time is to stay within the comfort of your home and be alone. Where as there is nothing wrong with that, it also affects your high school experience. It causes you to become less social. You don’t get to enjoy having that tight group of friends. You lose the opportunity to learn the social skills required later in life. Being individual teaches you a lot about yourself until you lock yourself at home every weekend. Then you become lonely. As this does not

You learn what type of person you’re looking for and what qualities you like in a person as well as dislike. Being in a relationship in high school gives you an opportunity to appreciate being single later in life much more than you would if you hadn’t been in a relationship. You learn to love your friends and family and appreciate them. You appreciate your friends for letting you have fun and pushing you to enjoy yourself verses holding you back from the experience. Friends are like being in a relationship without the restraints. Date nights with friends are parties and fun whereas date night with a partner is an obligation and a resurgent of the relationship in its

As teenagers, everyone calls who they are into questioning. Is one punk rock? Is another the classic prep? What about the jocks? These characteristics are typically pulled into play because high school gives teens the chance to throw themselves into the unknown to find who one is, who they want to be, and how they ended up there?…

Individuality is unheard of. This forces everyone in the society to think like them. It makes it so they have to think of themselves as part of the group. It takes away even the idea of being an individual. Without the word “I” they cannot do anything without it being attached to the group.…

Walking through the halls of high school I notice the behavior of some of the students. People mature differently, some may need more time while others will not. Few have the capability of graduating and leaving high school early and beginning life in what Leon Botstein, the president of Bard College, calls "the real world" (154). A high school student will graduate at age 18 after going through elementary, middle, and high school for four years, this system gives students a chance to attain knowledge in several subjects, find their interests, and to mature.…

I will also explore the differences between preppy teens and their so called polar opposites, the partiers. This paper will explore my own description of these stereotypes and how they can be good and bad. If you were to see a boy in a football jersey talking to a group of girls in the hallway and he seemed to be showing out for their attention, most people would automatically put him into the category of a typical jock. The general perception of jocks are that they are self-absorbed and do not care about their school work.…

    2. Many students today consider themselves to be multidimensional, but media portrayals of high school are full of identity archetypes (e.g. the nerd, the jock, the rebel, etc.). Reflecting on your high school experience, would you say you identify with one of these? If so, why and why do you embrace it? If not, why not?…

Most kids in high school keep to themselves. Botstein states “often the outsider becomes the more successful and admired adult”. That is a good thing, but on the other hand keeping to themselves meaning they do not form a bond with anyone and are likely to have little to no friends. Botstein explains, “The team sports of high school dominate more than student culture”. Sports like football, basketball, soccer, and baseball rule the high school aspects.…

It can cause mental disorders. For example, social anxiety, depression, and sometimes maybe even addictions. Isolation can make someone lack confidence or lack motivation to do anything that they would normally do. When someone is Isolated they are away from everything and usually isolation is caused by an event that happened to him/her. Isolation in a group is like what is was like for the students in the novel “The Wave”.…

When someone blurts out the word “high school”, what’s your first initial thought? I don’t know about you, but “cliques” are the first thought to my mind. The media is drowning in films that portray the idea of “cliques”, but personally, I believe the film Mean Girls is the best representation of the world of cliques. Means Girls is a teen classic, and I can almost bet the majority of my generation has seen or at least heard of it. It is American teen comedy film that manifests the harsh conditions teens undergo when it comes to high school cliques.…

In many academic institutions a hierarchy is created based on unspoken rules. Students may gain access to the top of the food chain in school by having expensive clothes, cars, or by being apart of the “right” sports teams or clique. This social construct, which I have experienced first hand at numerous schools, limits the influence students have over their own self image. Through rivalry and exclusion, students must choose a parochial identity rather than developing their personality from cumulative experience. Too easily can one student be considered a jock or a nerd, and rarely do these two groups find mutual ground through academics.…

Separation and loneliness can send someone into a depressive state, or make them feel crazy. When individuals are by themselves for too long, they start to question their own understanding of reality; who they really are and what the world is really like. People need interaction with other people because it is such a significant part of how they understand the reasons for living. Human beings are naturally curious. Therefore, by drastically reducing the amount of normal social interaction, exposure to the natural world, or experience of different relationships, isolation is emotionally, physically, and psychologically…

College vs. High School High school and college may appear to be closely related, but in reality they are two distinct worlds. It is crucial to recognize that the two, however slightly similar, mostly contrast in order to successfully complete the transition between the two. In transitioning from high school to college, a student would need to know what to expect, specifically how some behaviors that would have been considered taboo in the former are often acceptable in the latter. Colleges tend to offer a more substantial amount of freedom. High school on the other hand tends to focus on discipline and structural matters.…

Education plays a major role in our life. Many of us spend more than twenty years at school, in order to achieve the necessary qualifications required to attain our desired profession. Certainly, those years are broken down into several stages; two notable ones being high school and college. Many students enter college presuming the experience will be the same they had while in high school. Well, let me tell you; that assumption is very incorrect.…
