There are five golden rules a plot follows in a movie in order to be good. Following these steps helps to insure the author did not forget any major parts and keeps the author from straying off the topic.

The first part component of a good plot is a good plot skeleton. A good plot must have several major plot points and the steps to resolve them. The skeleton itself does not consist of any details but they will be added into the story later on. The plot points are considered the “story bones” that make up the plot skeleton. The points are the conflicts of the story; the first point you complete should be what originally changes the characters life from their typical everyday routine. The character works to resolve their conflicts throughout the story eventually reaching the resolution, follow this.

Fleshing out the plot refers to the emotions authors add into their plot to make the story come to life. The resolution is the final turning point of the plot and should be somewhat jaw dropping and unexpected. Not only is it the final turning point is it also where you have to say goodbye to all the characters and tie off any loose ends. K.M. Weiland says, “The resolution is always a bittersweet moment.” It is bittersweet because no one wants a good movie to end but it is also the thing the entire audience has been waiting for the entire movie.
