For the icebreaker the facilitators will be playing Jeopardy; each topic has five questions with five different point levels ranging from 100 to 500. For each topic, there will be a change of text to different questions and an increase of difficulty. The final question will be the will be the most difficult question to challenge the group players. The facilitators have created a power point file with the appropriate questions for the Educational group; all five topics will be displayed at the top and the game will proceed. Type of group and its purpose: This will be an Educational group, and the purpose is to educate and share information. The group members will be able to actively engage and discuss with one another during the group process (Poynter, 2010). The purpose of the group will be to deliver relevant information and educate with open context on parenting and life skills and self-care, by providing recourses and referrals that available for the group members amongst the Kitchener Waterloo Region. Group membership: Females, ages 16 to 19, prenatal and postnatal, lower income situations, ethnicity, sexual orientation(s) and abilities are all welcome.
E. Intervention: Behavioral Intervention will be used during the group.
“Behavioral interventions are primarily for use in groups when members want to change some aspect of their own behavior or to develop new behaviors. Members who are able to recognize their own behaviors that have negative outcomes for them or that interfere with their lives in some way will benefit from behavioral interventions” (Poynter, 2010, p. 108). Behavioral interventions are helpful when working with members who are unable to benefit from cognitive or educational interventions due to intellectual immaturity, or challenges.
Learning styles will be met to expose a positive, supportive environment, which help succeed in behavioural interventions: auditory and visual styles. Auditory learners will have the chance to listen to the questions as the facilitator is reading them aloud.
