IPPE Midpoint Reflection My second year rotation site was at HEB pharmacy, located on the corner of 4444 Kostory Road and Gollihar in Corpus Christy, TX. This community pharmacy is well managed under my preceptor, Jaime Lee. During the first morning of site on August 26th, 2016, I had the opportunity to observed my preceptor performance full range of duties as a pharmacist to a manager of a pharmacy. I was allowed to receive drugs from warehouse, include schedule II-V, typed and filled prescriptions. I had experience as a technician with Walgreens pharmacy 10 years ago, which helped me adapt the workflow, quickly; but I had to familiarize with HEB’s software. Whenever opportunities arise, Jamie would expose me to a variety of duties that a pharmacist encounters on the daily basis. I got to observe Jaime utilized her knowledge, communication skill and experience to counsel patients on compliance and safety of new prescriptions and over the counter products.

The protocol includes, comprehensive medication reviews(CMR), communicate with patient on adherence and obtain physician’s approval for prescription modification. The procedures can easily required an hour of pharmacist’s time but would only receive a range of $2-10 for each claim from the health insurance companies. The lack of payment model and status recognition prevent patients from accessing benefit achievable through pharmacist services. The two professional journal publications, APha and Pharmacy Times, suggest that pharmacist obtained provider status would improve patient therapy outcome, higher rate of patient satisfaction and reduce health cost. I think if the pharmacist service is adequately coverage or compensation, then the pharmacist would have more incentive to focus on patient-centered
