I agree that best practices are essential to the EBP in that nursing research has a major influence on nursing care. Research allows nurses to implement more effect practices and can cut down on the misuse and or overuse of care. In patient centered care, in order to use best medical practices we first most use the best information provided and research is vital. Seeing that the Nursing Research journal began only 65 years ago, it is somewhat fairly new. The challenged that I have is with the time it take to implement the research. First, you have to identify a problem and then develop a proposal. Once this is comprised, then you have to find funding for your research. After all is said and done, it can take up to 17 years to have the research incorporated into practice. The unanswered question that I would ask is why does it take 17 years to enact research that can improve nursing practices and ultimately improve patient care? I understand that the federal government funds a great deal of grants and to receive funding is extremely hard, but what about private donors?
