With healthcare professionals still struggling with ICD-10 implementation it’s hard to even think of ICD-11. Development of ICD-11 began in April 2007 and originally was scheduled to be implemented by 2012. The rollout then was delayed until 2015. They are still considering delaying ICD-11 many more months even though WHO has stated that it will be released in 2017 and is due by 2017. The healthcare industry is definitely in need of ICD-10 and its new codes because as I stated before this industry is ever changing. The codes that were relevant when ICD-9 was implemented are somewhat becoming useless. More detailed coding for a more complicated vast world is needed to advance in the future. Complete, accurate, and up-to-date procedure codes
