Ever since elementary school, I have studied geography and science, both becoming an avid passion of mine. While living in Hawaii, I made it to the state level of the National Geographic Bee while only in the fourth grade. During this event, I narrowly missed placing in the top ten. Although defeated, I realized that studying “where the Sankuru River is located” or the “impacts of slash and burn farming techniques” could maybe lead me to a profession in life. I continue to study and have a passion for both science and geography to this day.

The selection process was rigorous, requiring a formal interview, a test, and two prerequisite classes even to be considered. Out of the competitive pool of 70 applicants, I was one of 25 selected to be part of the program. It felt amazing, not only to be part of the program but also to elevate my aspiring dreams to become a member of the medical profession. The internship includes hands-on experience at numerous local and city-wide health centers and clinics in the San Antonio area. Upon completing the course, a certification test will be taken. If I pass the test, I will receive a basic radiology technician
