Are you mentally ill? According to NAMI, 43.8 million adults each year experience some kind of mental illness. Suicide is the second leading cause of death from people between the ages of 15-24. I’ve always been interested in helping people; the idea of people trusting me enough to let me take care of them is a thought I enjoy. Being a psychiatric nurse in California has been my goal since I was in eighth grade. Psychiatric nurses have to be mentally and physically strong, and I’m pumped to check this challenge off my bucket list! Some people ask me, “what inspired you to want to be a psychiatric nurse?” For a while now I’ve thought in depth about this. A school counselor talked to me about the classes I’d need to take to get into Mt. Mercy college. One of the requirements of doing my job is to be certified as a RN. Plus, if I want to move to California I’m going to have to start saving up. The cost of living there is tremendously expensive. Next, I’m going to have to find a car that’s dependable on getting me out there, so I don’t end up in the middle of nowhere. This dream is one of the more expensive dreams I have. Though it’s expensive and time consuming I know I can do it if I just keep my my head on straight. Character traits are the aspects of a person’s behavior and attitudes that make that make up their personalities. Being a psychiatric nurse means you have to be passionate about your job; you also have to be dependable because there are people depending on you to help them. Being reliable and helpful are two highly important characteristics in this line of work, as well. A great amount people would agree, these character traits undoubtedly describe
