The Dominican. It can be a sunny, cool and relaxing place. That’s usually 50% of the time, and the other 50 is a full downpour that can last there for about a month or two. As Some of you might know I sometimes have a yearly trip to the Dominican to build houses for the poor. This all happens with a group of 20-25 people from spruce land millworks, the company my mom works for.…

Living in Haiti was the home I really knew the best, where my mother lived in a three-bedroom house next to her mother, where she grow crops and raise animals, which was fun caused I learned so many things from my grandmother. I lived in Haiti for 10 years until one unexpecting day when I was being told that I was going…
Having the privilege of being born and raised in the Dominican Republic would instantly be a life changing experience. Having the opportunity to be born and raised in such a humbling country meant that I would be lucky enough to experience Hispanic culture at first hand, but it also meant that I would have the advantage of calling myself a Hispanic. The wisdom and experiences gained from being born and cultivated in the Dominican Republic are experiences that have molded me to be grateful for being Hispanic. Being Hispanic to me is a ravishing, blissful and heaven sent experience. However, being Hispanic and living in the United States of America is an experience that sometimes diminishes those significant emotions.…
One significant event in my life was when I traveled to the Dominican Republic to see family. I had never been to another country before, and I was nervous and excited at the same time. I was curious to learn about the different culture. When my family and I arrived, my Aunt Melania greeted us with warm hugs and kisses. Overall, I feel as if my vacation to the Dominican was a good learning experience for me.…
I returned to the San Juan Islands to visit throughout my teen years when the time and resources made it possible. I went to Orcas and Lopez Island several times before moving to Lopez permanently at eighteen. I met my husband shortly after moving there and I would find myself established in that relationship for many years to come. My relationship with my husband, and life on Lopez would prove to be an important life event. During this time, I learned the meaning of hard work, what security feels like within a relationship, in addition to, forming meaningful bonds with people I care…
Hawaii, the home of white sand beaches, pro surfing, hula dances, and warm weather. If I could move to any region within the United States, I would move to Hawaii with no hesitation. Hawaii contains a prestigious hospital and the opportunity to become a surfer. Both of which of which I have always dreamed of being a part in. Nothing would make me happier than becoming an orthopedic surgeon operating out of a Hawaiian hospital working on shark attack victims and other unlucky victims who need orthopedic repair, then go straight to the beach to surf and relax for the remainder of the day.…
This March, my family and I took a trip to Mexico for vacation. We did many fun things down there such as; parasailing, went on a boat for a day trip, sail boating, went swimming in the ocean, buggy board, sand volleyball, swam in the pool, walked the beach at night, got henna tattoos, a dread in our hair and went to the club with my brother and Emerson. The sand on my feet, the crashing of the waves, people swimming in the ocean, the smell of sunscreen and the wonderful taste of my flamingo drink; Mexico is my kind of place to be. But the first day in particular sticks out to me the most, the day we went parasailing and sail boating. Waking up in the morning in your soft hotel comforter, gives you a great feeling.…
As a Mexican American it’s kind of hard growing up, why you may ask? I was born and raised by a Mexican women and a Mexican man, who came to the United States for better opportunities. The place was always peaceful and quiet, at first everything was fine until my father decided to cheat on my mother and left us by the time I was three year old. All of this has helped characterize who I want to be.…
Dominican Republic One of the Latin American countries I would like to visit is Dominican Republic. Whenever my family decides to take a trip to Latin American countries, I usually decide to stay home. The reason for this being one I’m afraid of planes and two someone needs to care of the house. At least that is what I told them. In reality I have always been afraid to leave the country because I get easily sick.…

During my life, I definitely want to travel and experience as many cultures as possible. The beauty of travel is that it changes a person and teaches them a lot about themselves. I believe that when you experience other cultures and ways of life you become a more well - rounded person. What better way to learn about a culture, than being entirely submerged in it for a whole month? It would be a…
