Clair Patterson Monologue
Good morning. I am Clair Cameron Patterson, but you can call me Pat, like my friends do. You may know me as the first person to properly and accurately measure Earth’s age, which is 4.6 billion years old, if you didn’t know.
Well, actually, I’m what you would call a geochemist. I utilize the study of chemistry in order to answer geological questions regarding the composition of planets like the Earth or other celestial bodies in our universe, like the moon.
On June 11th, 1980, I wrote a poem dedicated to the asteroid named after me for my accomplishments in science. I will share it now with you,

Out of the people in our little scientific team, Harrison Brown knew the most about meteors. We used his knowledge on them in order to understand how to determine the origin of different elements. We did this through the processing and analyzing of data collected from meteorites.
When I met Edward Goldberg, my scientific focus shifted towards lead. ‘What is lead?’ you may ask. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, it is “a bluish-white soft malleable ductile plastic but inelastic heavy metallic element found mostly in combination and used especially in pipes, cable sheaths, batteries, solder, and shields against radioactivity.”
But, what does lead really do? What does it mean? Well, I may be able to answer that for you at the end of this monologue. Lead is something I worked with for a very long and significant portion of my life.
I started taking measurements of lead for the first time in 1948. I was able to find a
