Hyperthyroidism During Pregnancy: A Case Study

One medical condition affecting the client is hyperthyroidism. The pathology of hyperthyroidism changed my patient’s pregnancy because the mother’s medical condition might pass onto the child through the placenta with decreased TSH and increased T3 and T4 concentrations (Chiasera, 2013, para. 9). Hyperthyroidism during pregnancy can lead to many health illnesses that include: intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth, low birth weight, spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, preeclampsia, and heart failure (Tyer, N. M., M.D., Kim, T. Y., M.D., & Martinez, D. S., M.D, 2014). The patient had a history of hyperthyroidism and did not begin symptoms of hyperthyroidism during this pregnancy. Alemu et al.
